Maza Endorsed By Montgomery County Fraternal Order Of Police

PENNSBURG, JULY 18 — Jim Maza, the Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania’s 24th State Senate district, received the endorsement of Lodge 14 of the Fraternal Order of Police, representing Montgomery County's municipal police officers, at the Lodge’s monthly meeting last night in Conshohocken.

“ "I’m gratified and thrilled to have received the endorsement of the F.O.P. No one puts more on the line on a daily basis for our communities than the men and women who serve in our police forces, and to receive their endorsement is a genuine honor,” said Maza.

Citing his work as a former county commissioner and chairman of the Marlborough Township Board of Supervisors, Maza noted his experience of managing the Marlborough Township Police and his sponsorship of the expansion of the county fire academy and the Youth Aid Panel, a program designed to identify and assist at-risk youths.

Maza also pledged to introduce ‘portable pension’ legislation for municipal police officers within 30 days of being sworn into the Senate, and to fight for its passage. Currently, police officers that accept a position with another department lose the years of service they have accumulated for retirement benefit purposes.

“There’s no reason why a police officer should forfeit the time they’ve accrued when they move from one police department to another. It makes no sense. It’s just plain wrong, and I intend to fix it.”

Guaranteeing health benefits for retired police will also be a legislative priority for Maza.

“The men and women of our police forces make great sacrifices and willingly put their lives at risk. As State Senator, I intend to do everything possible to make sure our debt to them is repaid - and repaid in full.”
