the Formation of Republicans For Maza

GOP Players to Back the Democratic Nominee
in the 24th State Senate District Race

LANSDALE, May 28 — Democratic nominee for the 24th State Senate District Jim Maza received a boost today with the endorsement of his candidacy by several prominent Republicans, including former U.S. Secretary of Transportation under Ronald Reagan Drew Lewis at a press conference today in Lansdale, Montgomery County.

“Jim is far and away the best candidate in this race,” said Lewis who will co-chair a Republicans For Maza political action committee. “He has proven his leadership on a whole range of issues, and will be a strong and independent voice for the district and his constituents.”

Serving as Co-chair of the Republicans For Maza PAC with Lewis will be John Moyer, president of Moyer and Son, a Souderton based diversified home and agricultural services and products company. Former Philadelphia Eagle and member of the Montgomery County Open Space Board Pete Retzlaff will serve as Treasurer. Serving as Vice Chair will be Marlborough Township Supervisor Joy Leach.

“These people are my job and character references. I am humbled that these individuals who have contributed so much to their communities have chosen to support my candidacy,” said Maza, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Marlborough Township and a former Montgomery County Commissioner.

“Jim has offered the citizens of the 24th Senate District good ideas, common sense solutions, and workable programs,” said co-chair John Moyer. “Jim will represent Republicans, Democrats, and independent voters. He will be faithful only to his district and its citizens rather than any political party or partisan interest.”

Former Transportation Secretary Lewis reiterated his support of the rest of the Republican ticket.

“I support the entire Republican slate with the exception of this race,” said Lewis. “Jim, like Senator Holl, has rolled up his sleeves and done the heaving lifting and been involved intimately in improving our county and, indeed all of Pennsylvania,” said Lewis referring to the outgoing senator from the 24th District, Edwin Holl who chose not to seek re-election.

“Jim will be a fantastic senator and it is our pleasure to support him publicly,” said Lewis.
