Easton Express-Times: Maza’s the Man
Maza receives endorsement of Easton daily
EASTON, October 21, 2002 – Jim Maza, the Democratic candidate for the State Senate in the 24th District, received the endorsement of the Express-Times, Easton’s major daily newspaper, in an editorial yesterday.
“Based on his activist approach to campaigning and his problem-solving experience in township and county government, we endorse [Jim] Maza for this important state Senate seat,” read the editorial.
The endorsement also cited Maza’s pledge to locate his main district office in the City of Easton as well as, “his presence at local events and the relationships he has struck with local leaders” as major reasons for the endorsement.
“Governing is about listening to people and their concerns and hopes for the future. If I want to represent the Lehigh Valley, I knew it was incumbent upon me to get to know the citizens, the leaders, and the communities,” said Maza. “These communities are full of good people, hard-working, decent values, and character. It pleases me beyond words to have received the endorsement of the Express-Times.
“This was a district no one wanted and which disenfranchised voters throughout it,” said Maza. “But, I have tried to demonstrate to the voters throughout my campaign that hard work and straight talk can overcome the obstacles of this four county district.”
In contrasting Maza and his opponent the editorial noted, “Maza has the clear edge, based on his energetic style, his willingness to listen to – and hopefully, speak for – this corner of the 24th District.”
